All plant and assets used on Kent sites must be fit for use and compliant to Work Health and Safety regulations.
To ensure this, plant and assets are to be registered in the Kent Workforce Management System. Upon logging in, you will click the Manage Assets tile and proceed through the steps to register your plant or asset.
Please review the content on this page to learn how the Kent Asset Management portal is used to manage plant and assets, including which plant and assets require registration.
What is plant?
Plant is any machinery, equipment, appliance, container, implement and tool. It includes any component, or anything fitted or connected to any of those these. Plant includes items as diverse as lifts, cranes, computers, machinery, conveyors, forklifts, vehicles, power tools, and amusement devices, including scaffolding.
Which plant and assets require registration?
Each item below requires registration to be used on Kent sites:
- all mobile powered plant- earthmoving, tunneling, piling rigs, paving machines, rail
- motor vehicles
- heavy vehicles
- trailers
- cranes with SWL over one tonne
- elevating work platforms all types
- concrete pumping plant, fixed, truck and trailer mounted
- concrete batching plants
- generators greater than 10 kva
- engine driven water pumps greater than 75 mm diameter
- engine driven welders greater than 250 amps
- engine driven lighting plants
- boats and barges
Some plant may fall into multiple types, e.g. a crane truck. In these cases, the primary function will determine the plant type – the crane, in this example. If you require clarification, contact your Kent site representative.
Can’t find your plant or asset listed in the system?
Which plant and assets do NOT require registration?
Any plant that relies exclusively on manual power or propulsion for its operation, and is designed to be primarily supported by hand, does not need to be registered. Such plant includes drills, saws, vibrating plates, flex drive units, and hand tools.
Please note that while these items do not require registration, an operation manual must be supplied, and each item must be in correct operating condition and maintained as per manufacturer’s maintenance guide. Electrical equipment must have current test and tag fitted.
Vehicles entering site for deliveries also do not require registration. However, if the delivery vehicle performs work on site, e.g. a crane truck unloading itself, registration is required.
How to register plant and assets
Step 1 > Login and select the Manage Assets tile
Step 2 > Select to Add New Asset and choose/add from the drop-down options to the right:
- Asset Type
- Make
- Model
- Identifiers (VIN, Serial or Asset number)
With this information entered, Create Asset
Step 3 > Under the Asset Information, select Documents and proceed to upload the mandatory documents for that asset as prompted.
Documents may include (but aren’t limited to) photographs, checklists, service history, and manuals as required.
Step 4 > At site, the asset will be inspected and scanned for access.
Don’t forget, the contractor bringing the plant or asset to site will be responsible for its registration, even if the plant has been hired from a third party.
Plant & site requirements
- Prior to arriving on site or departing site, all plant, vehicles and equipment shall be clean and visually free of:
- Plant matter
- Soil/mud
- Fireants (in QLD)
This is subject to site inspection.
- Inspections, Servicing and Maintenance
- A plant inspection onsite will be performed as part of the onboarding process, with Kent verification of the inspection checklist to be submitted
- All inspections, servicing and maintenance of plant, vehicles and equipment must be up to date with documented supporting records submitted
- All personnel operating mobile plant and equipment must be competent and qualified with appropriate licensing as applicable.
Plant movements on and off site
Once plant has been registered to site, it can leave and return as its verification is recorded at site entry and exit.
Each time plant or asset returns to site, expired documents, registrations, services or inspections will be flagged. It is the plant supplier’s responsibility to ensure records are maintained to ensure site access is not denied.
